John Carr, age 68, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020, surrounded by his loving family of Covid-19. John was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Patchogue, on Long Island. As the youngest of five, John looked up to his older siblings and revered his parents. Growing up, John discovered a love of sports and all things water, which led to a love of surfing. A devout Catholic, John graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in 1970 and continued his education at Pro...vidence College in Rhode Island. While away at school, his love of literature, Friars basketball and music blossomed. John's professional career took him around the country, living in New York, Louisiana, and Washington State. He finally settled in Pennsylvania, where he retired as a manufacturing engineer at Boeing after 33 years. John was an avid fan of college basketball, rooting for his alma mater, The Providence Friars. He was an advocate for social justice causes, with a keen interest in classic literature, politics, history, and true crime. He was a fan of the gameshow Jeopardy, and nightly viewings were a family affair. As his children grew, they became strong competitors, but John remained the champion. John's favorite past time, however, was listening to music. He loved discovering new musicians and sharing their songs with his family and friends. As his hearing waned, he played his music louder. Road trips were filled with CD changes and songs sung in unison. John's appetite was as voracious as his love of lyric. He appreciated fine dining and ethnic cuisine, but nothing could top a good sandwich or a home cooked meal prepared by his wife. His greatest passions were his love for his pets, his adoring children, and his beloved wife Mary, who he referred to as his bride for their entire marriage. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his infectious laugh will never be forgotten. SURVIVORS: Wife of 43 years Mary (Pace) Carr; Children: Laura Faye Halm (Matt), John Carr (Marlee Wilson), and Allie Abetti (Jonathan); Siblings: Lawrence Carr of Yorkville, CA, Peter Carr of North Kingstown, RI, and Kathleen Sheridan of Ballston Spa, NY; and Grandchild: Arlo Abetti. Visitation will be Monday December 7th, 2020 from 9:00am-10:00am at St. John Fisher Church, 4225 Chichester Ave. Boothwyn. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am Monday at the church. BURIAL: St. Joachim - St. John The Evangelist Parish Cemetery, Beacon, NY.
